Journal of a Life after Matric page 2

Self introspection is imperative
It’s important to start researching about your field of interest before matric. This process is not just a playful process done during lunch break while sipping a couple of cold-drinks and sharing a quarter of a R12 bunny chow. This process wants you to understand yourself and what you want out of your life. One needs to write down their vision, question their goals and then align your purpose with your field of interest. Ask yourself important life directing questions. What are your abilities, talents and interest? Which course will best showcase my interests, abilities and talents and still be closer to my vision and next to my purpose. It’s important to never try fit in to society or try please anyone.
Research insight saves lives!
Research will save your life from post matric tsunami. Its important to be as practical as possible. Make time to research available career workshops, expos and exhibitions advertised online. Being part of such experiences enables you to interactively become part of your own research and interact with like minded individuals and professionals.
Visit libraries and access information about your field of interests and what it entails. Creating a habit of surfing the internet for such reasons is significant to building a career. Engage more with people who are in the same field of interest as you. There is so much to be done before entering tertiary. In above all, laziness is the by product of ignorance. And ignorance is harmful.  Research means sacrificing lunch and airtime money here and there to be able to cover the research expenses.
Be practical
After school or on weekends, take time out on your not so busy schedule or rather time table, visit different colleges and universities. Ask questions. Ask for brochures. Get contact details. View their facilities, residence, and accommodation. Ask about their fees, financial assistance, loans, bursaries and scholarships and payment options. Attend open days. Enquire on Aps scores, entrance requirements, application forms and registration dates. Do it all in time not last minutes. Don’t end up studying veterinary science when you intended on studying environmental science. No two are the same! Continue reading…….
